This is the first time we have presented works at PARIS TABLEAU, the fair which, for the last four years, has attracted art dealers, collectors and scholars of old masters from all over the world to the heart of Paris in November. In the prestigious Palais Brongniart, the former premises of the Borse (Stock Exchange) in the middle of Paris, visitors can admire the works selected by 25 exhibitors in preparation for the event and, at the same time, follow other important initiatives such as the interesting symposium curated by Keith Christiansen and Anna Ottani Cavina devoted to the theme Alle origini di un gusto: la pittura barocca negli Stati Uniti (In search of the origins of a taste: baroque painting in the United States)
We decided to focus on baroque painting for our exhibition at PARIS TABLEAU (stand 9), presenting rare and important works by some of the leading artists of the baroque era in Italy. The exhibition catalogue will underline our choice by illustrating the Adoration of the Shepherds by Valerio Castello, previously in the Steinberg collection in New York, and a work on display for the first time. The painting King David meets Christ in Limbo by Francesco Solimena deals with a theme that illustrates a crucial moment in the mysterious descent of Jesus into Hell in the account in the apocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus.
Following the ANTIQUES FAIR BIENNALE in FLORENCE and HIGHLIGHTS KUNSTMESSE MUNICH, we shall complete our attendance of international art fairs held in autumn with PARIS TABLEAU. Subsequently we shall invite enthusiasts of old master paintings to book a visit to the gallery that we opened in June in Rome within the historic gardens of palazzo Capponi Antonelli. We will be delighted to show you a selection of the works already displayed at the fair and several new discoveries which we are analysing and preparing for the important TEFAF MAASTRICHT art fair in spring.
