Autumn 2015 opens up for us with our first participation to the XXIX BIENNALE INTERNAZIONALE dell’ANTIQUARIATO di FIRENZE, located in the wonderful premises of the Palazzo Corsini overlooking the Lungarno. Our exhibition will be centered around a masterpiece of Neapolitan Baroque, the stunning L’eruzione del Vesuvio del 1631 painted by Domenico Gargiulo also known as Micco Spadaro (Naples, 1609/10-before 1675), a pivotal work in the artist’s career discussed by his biographer Bernardo De Dominici and representing a crucial event in Neapolitan History. Accompanying this fascinating canvas, a number of other meaningful works by Neapolitan artists, all Portraits, such as the Cavaliere by Luca Giordano (Naples, 1634-1705); La Prima Modella, an intimate terracotta head by Vincenzo Gemito (Naples, 1852-1929) and the strong, fierce, colourful Ciociara by his friend Antonio Mancini (Rome, 1852-1930).
The exhibition will include other important artworks by Antonio Campi, Aurelio Lomi Gentileschi, Jan Miel, Giovan Battista Recco, Gregorio Guglielmi and Giovan Battista Lusieri, spanning from religious themes to genre paintings and landscapes.
